Immaturity
Asked you out before you went home for the night,
packing your bags quickly,
you left like it was fight or flight.
Easily distracted these days,
I don’t pay attention to the signals.
You shrugged your shoulders;
in my twisted brain that’s how love kindles.
I offered you my number;
you took it reluctantly enough;
you said maybe some other time,
turning a phrase into a rebuff.
Pretty soon you’ll be hearing from me;
I’m planning on changing my ways;
I’m getting no results,
24-hour malaise,
zen philosopher stoner,
waking on a pretty daze.
So I’m staying home again,
waiting indoors again,
more than you can comprehend,
darkness is my closest friend;
with no one else to love
I’m hoping to transcend.
Waiting for a change,
promised a change,
It’s been a long time coming,
but a change won’t come,
no,
a change won’t come.
